  3.                            HOW TO USE THIS PATCH

  6. First, we'd like to apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced
  7. with your Space Quest IV CD. The new sound file that accompanies
  8. this "READ.ME" file will prevent a lock up problem when the "zombie" 
  9. screams if you have a Turtle Beach Multisound card or another sound card
  10. that doesn't support variable sound sample rates through Windows.
  11.  
  12. The following instructions will provide a step by step procedure to update
  13. your current version of Space Quest IV CD. If you are uncertain or need 
  14. assistance with using this patch, please contact our Technical Support
  15. Department. Information on how to reach Technical Support will be provided
  16. at the end of this file.

  19. HOW TO USE THIS PATCH
  20.  
  21. 1. If you have not already done so, you must install the Space Quest IV CD
  22. game files to your hard drive.  To do this through Windows, select RUN from
  23. the FILE menu.  Type E:SETUP where E is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  24. Choose "Install game to hard drive (faster)".  NOTE: Hard drive installation
  25. requires 6 megabytes of free hard drive space (12 megabytes if you are using 
  26. a hard drive compression program like Stacker or SuperStor).

  28. 2. Use the DOS "copy" command to copy the sound file to the same directory
  29. that your Space Quest IV CD-ROM game files are located.  In most cases, the
  30. game files are in directory c:\SIERRA\SQ4, although this will change if
  31. you chose a different hard drive or directory when you were installing Space
  32. Quest IV CD. Here's an example of the copy command:

  34. COPY B:*.* C:\SIERRA\SQ4
  35.  
  36. This example copy command will copy all the files from the current
  37. directory on drive b: to the Space Quest IV CD-ROM game directory on drive
  38. c:.  This example assumes that the patch disk is in drive b: and that the
  39. game files are in the \SIERRA\SQ4 directory on drive c:.

  41. 3. Once the sound file is in your game directory, then you're ready to go!  
  42.
